A house is a hand with windows (Soapsink)
Year: 2025
Material: copper, soap, water
Dimensions: 50 x 40 x 23 cm
AboutThis installation is made out of a solid block of soap that functions as a sink. The soap smells of Lily of the valley, a scent connected to the artist’s parental home. The object is equipped with a copper faucet and a copper replica of a remaining fragment of soap that was present in the space. Visitors are invited to use the washbasin, creating a repetitive, collective action within the space, which will eventually cause the work itself to disappear.
The work was made following a research into the physical forms of grief and the way in which art practice and daily life influence each other.
InformationThis work is part of the installation ‘A house is a hand with windows’, which was created for the space in which it was exhibited.
