Passage

Year: 2025
Material: water, sponges
Dimensions: 200 x 80 cm (1:1 scale of the physical action)

AboutThis site-specific intervention is based on bricked-up passageways that are visible on the walls in the space, showing both presence and absence. By cleaning the only painted-over doorway with water and sponges, its underlying layer is exposed. In its size, the work is a precise imprint of the artist’s physical action.

With the work ‘Passage’, Elisa Verkoelen performs an intervention following her research into daily actions and the physical memory of a place.

Information‘Passage’ was made in the In Situ atelier at Royal Academy of Antwerp, Dambruggestraat and is part of the installation ‘A house is a hand with windows’, which was created for the space in which it was exhibited.
