A seed, a shell, a silhouette

Site specific installation

Year: 2025
Material: willow branches
Dimensions: 250 cm x 100 cm x 100 cm

AboutThree semi-circular objects in the size of a body, were woven from willow branches found in the immediate surroundings of the site. Visitors are invited to lay in the baskets, temporarily becoming part of the object and its environment. The work explores the basket as a ‘boundary object’: a woven shape, situated at the borderline between beginning and end, functioning as both cradle and death basket. In circular movements we are born and buried, we braid a body to secure it. A basket is a cradle, a basket is a nest. A seed, a shell, a silhouette.Information‘A seed, a shell, a silhouette’ was made for the project ‘Art on Campus’, a collaboration between the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and the University of Antwerp. This site-specific work was made on a semi-circular piece of land. The installation is located at the Faculty of Biology, where research is done on nest building and cocoon formation.
