About‘30 seconds of silence’ covers the precise silence, or all audio that can be interpreted as silence, in a conversation over a recording time totaling 2 hours, 2 minutes, and 1 second. Only silences that could be cut (silences spanning more than 0.04 seconds), were used. A silence of 2 minutes and 35 seconds during which no one spoke because silence was requested, was not included. This work is an observation that honors and appreciates the in-between and can be interpreted as a proposal for a new form of sustainability.
InformationThis work was commissioned by RES Limburg in connection with the ‘Congres Regionale Energie en Lokale Warmte 2025’ (Regional Energy and Local Heat Congress 2025), for which the artist was asked to create a work based on the Round Table discussion she attended.
